The Holidays: A Time To Give Back - Your Used Cooking Oil, That Is...

Well, here is your chance to be Santa, and give your used cooking oil as a gift to the SFPUC. What's best, your gift will have a dual benefit: help keep our sewers clean, and be converted to biofuel for use in vehicles, reducing our carbon footprint.

SFPUC Breaks Ground on the Seismic Upgrade of City's Second Largest Resevoir

Earlier this week, SFPUC General Manager Ed Harrington along with Commission President FX Crowley, Commissioner Anson Moran and other SFPUC personnel broke ground on the seismic retrofit of the City’s second largest reservoir, University Mound North Basin in the Portola district. The press conference was held shortly after the weeklong commemoration of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake last week.

Construction Project Update #3
Temporary Saturday Work
To accommodate construction work, S.J. Amoroso and its subcontractors will be working onsite on a temporary basis on Saturdays, starting Oct 17, 2009, for the following several months. Work will mainly occur inside the reservoir. However, there may be noise, traffic and parking impacts due to the transporting of materials to and from various points within the construction site.
- What: Temporary Saturday work
- Time: 8:00AM – 4:00PM
- Duration: Starting October 17, 2009 and continuously for the next few months
- Where: In and around the North Basin Reservoir
- Impacts: Increased noise levels from offloading of construction equipment may occur. Parking and traffic impacts on University between Felton & Bacon streets.
If you see any unusual or illegal activities during non-work hours, please call the police immediately.
Monday thru Friday Work Hours Extended
Construction work hours have been extended on a temporary basis to 7AM – 7PM.
University Street Traffic Impacts
As our contractor S.J. Amoroso continues to work inside the reservoir, there will be temporary traffic impacts on University Street between Felton & Bacon streets.
With construction activities commencing at University and Felton streets to set up an access point into the North-west corner of the North Basin, parking has been limited on the small portion of the Felton (30’ feet)/University (100’ feet) street corners, but the sidewalk is still open to pedestrians. A portion of the middle of University Street (100’ feet) between Felton & Bacon streets is now also, being used by subcontractor Malcolm Drilling for construction work inside the reservoir.
For your safety, please be aware of flagmen, construction equipment and traffic impacts when driving around the construction site.
Bacon Street Now Closed to Pedestrians and Traffic until Summer 2011
