With potentially heavy rain storms forecasted through the weekend, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission along with the Department of Public Works (DPW) are encouraging San Francisco residents and businesses in low-lying flood-prone areas, and those who live or work in below-grade properties, to prepare for potential flooding. Residents and businesses in flood-prone areas should position sandbags on their property and report any blocked or clogged storm drains or catch basins immediately.

DPW is providing up to 10 (filled or unfilled) sandbags to residents who show proof of residency and can be picked up at the following location:

Construction Project Update #3

Temporary Saturday Work
To accommodate construction work, S.J. Amoroso and its subcontractors will be working onsite on a temporary basis on Saturdays, starting Oct 17, 2009, for the following several months. Work will mainly occur inside the reservoir. However, there may be noise, traffic and parking impacts due to the transporting of materials to and from various points within the construction site.

    What: Temporary Saturday work

    Time: 8:00AM – 4:00PM
Duration: Starting October 17, 2009 and continuously for the next few months
Where: In and around the North Basin Reservoir
Impacts: Increased noise levels from offloading of construction equipment may occur. Parking and traffic impacts on University between Felton & Bacon streets.

If you see any unusual or illegal activities during non-work hours, please call the police immediately.

Monday thru Friday Work Hours Extended
Construction work hours have been extended on a temporary basis to 7AM – 7PM.

University Street Traffic Impacts

As our contractor S.J. Amoroso continues to work inside the reservoir, there will be temporary traffic impacts on University Street between Felton & Bacon streets.

With construction activities commencing at University and Felton streets to set up an access point into the North-west corner of the North Basin, parking has been limited on the small portion of the Felton (30’ feet)/University (100’ feet) street corners, but the sidewalk is still open to pedestrians. A portion of the middle of University Street (100’ feet) between Felton & Bacon streets is now also, being used by subcontractor Malcolm Drilling for construction work inside the reservoir.

For your safety, please be aware of flagmen, construction equipment and traffic impacts when driving around the construction site.

Bacon Street Now Closed to Pedestrians and Traffic until Summer 2011

This street closure allows for the project construction equipment and materials to be contained in an area within the construction site, and not on adjacent streets. Please look out for street closure and detour signs when driving around the reservoir.
