Bacon Street (between Bowdoin & University streets) will close starting this week

The traffic control plan submitted by S. J. Amoroso to the City's Department of Parking and Traffic has now been approved. This means that the closure of Bacon Street between University and Bowdoin streets will occur this week. This street closure will allow for much of the construction equipment and materials to be contained in an area within the construction site, and not on adjacent streets. This portion of Bacon Street will be closed to traffic and pedestrians until Summer 2011. Please look out for street closure and detour signs when driving around the reservoir.

Also, thank you to those that joined us at the project Open House last Thursday, September 10, 2009 held at the SFPUC's Yellow House on the corner of University & Bacon streets. If you weren't able to make it, a copy of the project boards featured and handouts provided are available by clicking here.

Trailer staging underway on corner of University & Felton streets

In preparation of the seismic retrofit of the University Mound-North Basin, the staging of prime contractor S.J. Amoroso’s trailer inside the fenced area of the reservoir on the corner of University and Felton streets is now underway. We appreciate your patience during this time as the construction team settles in to start construction activities later this month.

SFPUC Construction Notice: University Mound Reservoir - North Basin Seismic Upgrade

In late August 2009, S.J. Amoroso Construction Company will commence construction activity at the University Mound Reservoir - North Basin, located at University and Felton streets in the Portola District. The initial work will include closing Bacon Street (between University and Bowdoin streets) to set up the staging area for the construction equipment and the installation of temporary fencing. Also to minimize traffic impacts to surrounding streets, this portion of Bacon Street will be closed to traffic starting in late August and will remain closed for the next 24 months.

The successful completion of this project will ensure the reservoir continues to provide drinking water to San Francisco residents even after a seismic event or other emergencies.
